I have always known I wanted to be a sharer of stories, I have just not always known that I knew. Still, my entire professional life – save for a short stint working for a CD store during the holidays in 2003 – has been centered on bringing people together through words.
For almost ten years as a science communicator, those words have been to serve a basic philosophy: that the more we know about the world, the better equipped we are to make better decisions about how to live in it. And to know more about that world, we need a community with which to share knowledge and information. My vocation surrounds building these informed communities.
I’ve also often doubled as a development professional, raising money and awareness for everything from the sending kids to Jewish summer camp to colon cancer awareness. Here, it’s about helping members of a community become engaged members of that community, and turning that engagement into support.
Connecting with people around me in meaningful ways has also taken the form of local volunteer reporter, storyteller, and musician. Always, the desire is to entertain, inform, and somedays when we’re all lucky be inspired.
